A professional cleaner revealed how to test how dirty your mattress is, but warned that the results can be very disturbing.

Kacie Stephens, a professional cleaner who runs The Big Clean Co, a cleaning agency in Victoria, shared her mattress cleanliness test on TikTok.

The business owner started the video with a simple warning: "Once you see this, you can't cancel it," she said.

The video shows a full-time cleaner standing in front of a large, seemingly clean mattress.

Make the results even more shocking.

Casey took a piece of black material and wrapped it around the end of her vacuum cleaner.

"It's like a filter for dust and skin cells," she said, moving over a small part of the mattress surface.

Then she showed a pile of skin cells found in the mattress test.

The dead skin looks like fine white sand stuck to a black substance.

This disturbing video quickly became popular and has been viewed more than 490,000 times.

More than 18,000 people liked the video or commented, and most people were disgusted by what they saw.

"It's disgusting, but I need to see it, so I thought...thank you?" one woman wrote on the post.

Others said their mattresses would never be "so dirty"-which prompted Kacie to tell them to try the test themselves.

A woman said: "We are very clean people and use mattress protectors."

"There is a mattress protector on this," Kacie replied.

Others said that they often use vacuum cleaners to vacuum, and suspect that they will encounter the same problem.

"Try this test, you might find that it's time for steam cleaning," she said.

Kacie said that the mattress should be vacuumed every time the sheets are changed and steam cleaned once a year.
